OLC scholarship fund receives $2,500 Golden West donation

KYLE – The Oglala Lakota College scholarship fund recently received a $2,500 donation from Golden West.

The tribal college will put the money toward its Rebuilding the Lakota Nation Through Education capital campaign, said OLC Development Director Marilyn Pourier. OLC is working to raise $12 million for its 40th anniversary in 2011. Half of that will go to a faculty endowment and half will go to the scholarship fund.

“We certainly appreciate the generous gift to support our deserving, hard-working students,” said Pourier. “Higher education is the hope of the Lakota people and all graduates of OLC. We look forward to having Golden West join us to celebrate OLC’s 40th anniversary.”

Headquartered near Kyle on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, OLC serves about 1,400 students and offers Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in an array of academic areas plus Master’s degrees in Lakota leadership and management and in education administration. OLC was founded in 1971 and is accredited by the Higher Learning Association of the North Central Association.

“At Golden West, we understand the value and the power of an education for the South Dakota communities we serve. We are happy to join in that effort and congratulate OLC on their continued success,” said Golden West General Manager Denny Law.
