Bonesteel Area Community Development Corp. receives $5,000 Golden West economic development award
BONESTEEL – The Bonesteel Area Community Development Corp. received a $5,000 economic development award from Golden West Telecommunications on March 5.
The development corporation plans to use the money to pursue its goal of making Bonesteel the “cleanest town in South Dakota,” according to the group’s award application. The development corporation plans to spend the Golden West funds in two areas.
First, the group plans to tear down unlivable houses, clean up the lots and make them ready to resell.
Second, the development corporation plans to help pay to install a sign with the message, “Bonesteel: Road to the River.”
Golden West General Manager Denny Law said he wants the Golden West Economic Development Program to foster economic growth in rural South Dakota.
“Golden West is proud to be a partner with the Bonesteel Area Community Development Corp. and other similar groups across South Dakota in building strong rural communities,” said Law. “We know it takes dedicated, hard-working individuals to create true economic development. We hope that the Golden West funds make it a little easier for those folks to achieve their goals.”
Golden West Telecommunications has provided economic development grants to the communities it serves across South Dakota for the past 12 years.
