The area scheduled for the 2022 FTTH upgrades are the Enning (rural) area north and west of Enning and Union Center. The remainder of the Enning exchange will be upgraded in 2023. Some subscribers south of Union Center and around Maurine were part of the 2021 FTTH upgrades.

They will continue along Stoneville Road until they reach the intersection with Old Stoneville Road near the Stoneville School. At this intersection, the crew will work their way west for 3 miles. As this crew progresses north, they will pick up a 2-mile route along 186 Place. They will remain in the Stoneville area for the rest of this week and into the next.
  • One bore crew will be drilling and inserting pipe along Triple Creek Road this week, between Red Owl Road and Pine Creek Road. After this stretch of road is complete, they will move back to Red Owl Road to work towards Fox Ridge Road, then along Fox Ridge south of Trails End Place.
  • The other bore crew is working along Pleasant View Road. When this area is complete, they will move to Red Owl Road between Fox Ridge and Green Valley Road.

  • One crew boring, or drilling and inserting pipe under roadways, will be working along Old Stoneville Road this week then moving up to Triple Creek Road. This area will cover between Red Owl Road and Pine Creek Road near the meet point with Maurine.

  • MasTec’s main plow crew is working on Fairpoint Road, one mile south of West Fairpoint Road. They will continue on this route for six miles, then move to Old Stoneville Road. They will start on Fairpoint road and work their way east for three miles.
  • MasTec’s boring rig, which buries pipe under roads and approaches, will be on West Fairpoint Road, going west of Fairpoint Road for three miles. They will also work along Old Stoneville Road going east of Fairpoint Road.

  • MasTec will have plows on Fairpoint Road from Mandan Loop to Minnehaha Place. They will move to Chalk Butte Road from Fairpoint Road and go east for 1.5 miles. By the Saturday they should reach Atall Road from Fairpoint Road to Chalk Butte Road.
  • Bore crews will be drilling and inserting pipe on Atall Road from Fairpoint Road to Chalk Butte Road;  on Fairpoint Road from Atall Road to Minnehaha Place; and then on Minnehaha Place from Fairpoint Road going west for 3 miles.

  • MasTec will be plowing cable on Highway 34 and New Underwood Road, then will go east of Highway 34 for five miles.
  • When they are finished constructing that route, they will be working on Fairpoint Road to Chalk Butte Road, working east on Chalk Butte for one and a half miles.

  • Snow over the weekend delayed the start of fiber plowing. If it is dry enough to plow this week, MasTec plans to start on Highway 34 from New Underwood Road to 167th Place.
  • MasTec’s boring crew will be inserting pipe under roadways and approaches in the same location, as well as on Fairpoint Road from Mandan Loop, going north to Atall Road.

Golden West Announces 2022 Construction of Fiber to the Home in Rural Enning

WALL, SD – Golden West Telecommunications will expand its fiber network in the Enning (rural) exchange north and west of Enning and Union Center. The remainder of the Enning exchange will be upgraded in 2023. Fiber allows for greater bandwidth and speed and offers a more reliable and secure connection to the world for all telecommunications services including phone and internet in the town of Enning.

The Fiber to the Home (FTTH) project will convert homes and businesses from copper cable to long, thin strands of glass called optical fibers. These fibers use pulses of light to transmit data and are immune to environmental factors such as electrical currents and water.

“Fiber is one of the best investments Golden West can make on behalf of its members,” Golden West General Manager and CEO Denny Law said. “Strong and secure broadband internet connections are a necessity these days. Fiber optic technology will provide residents and businesses in Enning with a seamless online experience and new opportunities in the coming years.”

The cooperative is working to upgrade its entire service territory to fiber within the next five or six years. In addition to rural Enning, Golden West will also complete fiber projects this year in rural Bonesteel, Bridgewater, Corsica, Clearfield, and the town of Mission, including the communities of Antelope and White Horse.

Golden West will be taking care of wiring at homes and businesses. Two contractors will complete the project in rural Enning on behalf of Golden West. MasTec Inc. will handle construction and Heberly Engineering will cover easements, permits, and inspections. Golden West will also take care of customer service.

FTTH is a multi-stage project that can take up to a year to complete depending on factors such as weather.   • MasTec will pause construction for the next several weeks. They will resume work in the spring, with the starting date depending on weather conditions.
  • Workers will be in the area for the next few days, completing cleanup behind the plows.

  • MasTec will have two crews working on Highway 34 from Hereford Road to Hope Road. One will be plowing and the second will be setting vaults in the ground.
  • Crews will be plowing on Thursday, then will work on cleanup.
  • As the weather gets colder, work on the project will come to a stop. Crews will return to the project in the spring as weather permits.

  • The first plow crew will be on 157th Avenue and south of 209th Place. They will work their way north to Hereford Road, then continue on Hereford Road going north to Highway 34, by the end of the week or the beginning of the next week they should be on Highway 34 working east to New Underwood Road
  •  The second plow crew will be on New Underwood Road and Highway 34. They will go south to Wilcox Road, then go east on Wilcox Road. This plow crew will be going on break this Wednesday and will return on Monday.
  • Additional crews will be boring below road approaches and plowing lines to customer premises from the mainline cable.

  • NSC is plowing west from Old Highway 85 in Wyoming.
  • Construction is nearing completion. Crews will finish the project by plowing lines to customers who requested service after construction was underway.
  • After all the fibers have been spliced and tested, Golden West will connect the fibers in the Golden West central office in Edgemont.
  • Phase 2 installations to upgrade customer services to fiber will begin in a few weeks.

  • The attached map shows the areas where main line fiber has been buried so far during construction.
  • MasTec will have one crew working on Hope Road from New Underwood to Hay Draw Road.
  • A second crew will be plowing on New Underwood Road from Cross S Road to East River View Road. They will also go from East River Road and 209th Street off New Underwood Road.
  • A crew will boring under roads and approaches, which involves drilling while installing vacant pipe.

  • Another crew is working on Cross Road between 206th and 207th Streets.
  • A crew is plowing lines to premises (drops) in the area between Enning and Union Center, north of Union Center.

  • MasTec’s main line plow crew is working on Highway 34 between 173rd Avenue and Union Center.
  • The main crew is also plowing segments along Hope Road.
  • When drop crew is finished plowing lines to customers in Union Center, they will move to customer premises on Hay Draw and Hope Roads, going west of Hope Road.

  • A bore crew is working along Highway 34 from Enning to Union Center.
  • A plow crew is burying cable near the intersection of Stoneville Road and Tifft Road.

  • Plow crews suspended work due to wet weather. They will return next week to finish work on Hay Draw Road and 172nd Avenue.
  • A drop crew will be burying lines to customer premises as weather permits.
  • A bore crew is working along Highway 34 from Enning to Union Center.

  • MasTec has several crews working in this area. A plow crew is working on Hope Road from Highway 34 to Hay Draw Road.
  • A plow crew and a bore crew will be on Hay Draw Road going west from Hope Road for 6 miles.

  • A crew will start work late this week in Union Center. They will be using smaller plows and will also plow lines, or drops, to customer homes.
