Matilda Anderson will receive a $1,000 Golden West Scholarship for 2019.
A 2019 graduate of Saint Francis Indian School, Matilda lives on the Rosebud Reservation in the community of Two Strike. She is half Lakota and half Navajo, carrying the genes of her beautiful ancestors.
Her activities include student council, basketball, volleyball, golf and NHS. Matilda plans to attend school at either Haskell Indian Nations University, the University of Kansas or Kansas State University.
Matilda is motivated to enforce positive changes on the reservation. To do this, she will further her education and earn a master’s degree. While she has not finalized her career plans, she will bring back knowledge and skills to her community and build it up even more.
