Since 2009, affiliate broadcast stations like KSFY (ABC), KTTW (FOX), KELO (CBS) and KDLT (NBC) began charging for passing, or retransmitting, their signal to every cable television customer. Federal regulations allow affiliate broadcasters to charge video operators for programming which can be received over-the-air for free. The entire retransmission fee ($28.43 for Eastern/Central customers or $26.60 for Western customers, effective Jan. 1, 2023) on your bill each month is passed through Golden West and paid directly to the affiliate broadcast stations.
