The Hill City area running along S.D. Highway 385 and east along Highway 323, also known as the Old Hill City Road will be added to the Golden West fiber network in 2025.

Broadband internet access is coming to the
Hill City area!

Golden West's fiber-optic network connection will allow you to perform everyday activities online more easily for education, business, healthcare, entertainment, and more.

The following speeds will be available – with no data limits and no contracts:

  • up to 250 Mbps –  Starting at $64.95/month, recommended for users who email, browse online, and stream on one or two devices. 
  • up to 500 Mbps – Starting at $84.95/month, recommended for users who do a lot of streaming and connect multiple devices at the same time.  
  • up to 1 Gbps (1 Gig) – Starting at $104.95/month, recommended for users who telecommunicate, stream in high definition, or are serious online gamers. 

Golden West also offers Wi-Fi plans to serve all of your many wireless devices.

  • Ultimate Wi-Fi  $11.00/month. This plan offers exceptional security protection and access control, along with a router lease and Golden West Wi-Fi technical support.
  • Managed Wi-Fi – $6.00/month. This plan includes a router lease and Golden West Wi-Fi technical support.

Heberly & Associates, a contractor working for Golden West, has staked the project and is working to secure all necessary easements and right-of-way agreements. For your safety, every Heberly & Associates worker has a Golden West name badge.

Project Updates

June 26, 2025

  • Both south and east of Hill City, Golden West technicians are installing clamshells on houses where customers have signed up for new service.
  • North Central Service will have three plows working. One will be working along Reno Gulch Road and the other two will be on Old Hill City Road and Mills Ranch Road. One of the plows will be moving to Twin Rocks Road next week.
  • Three bore crews are working on Old Hill City Road between Mills Ranch and Pink Cabin Roads.
  • Rock saws are on Old Hil City Road between Mills Ranch and Twin Springs Roads. One is currently on Twin Rocks Road.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes will be plowing lines off Old Hill City Road, Tin Lode Court, Palmer Gulch Road, and Twin Rocks Road.
  • Construction crews will be away next week. They will return on July 7th.

June 19, 2025

  • Both south and east of Hill City, Golden West technicians are installing clamshells on houses where customers have signed up for new service.
  • North Central Service will have three plows. One will be working along Reno Gulch Road, the second will be on Cowboy Gulch Road, and the third will be on Old Hill City Road.
  • Directional drilling and prep crews will be working along Old Hill City Road.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes will be plowing lines off Old Hill City Road.

  • Both south and east of Hill City, Golden West technicians are installing clamshells on houses where customers have signed up for new service.
  • North Central Service will be working along Highway 385 near Dead Broke Street. They will continue along the highway heading south.
  • A second crew will be working on Old Hill City Road near Memorial Park.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes will be plowing lines to the remaining locations south of Hill City. They will also be working along Old Hill City Road.

  • North Central Service has two crews boring, or drilling and inserting duct. One is on Reno Gulch Road and the other is on Old Hill City Road.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes will be working south of Hill City on Cowboy Gulch Road, Cowboy Ridge Place, and Highway 385.

  • Both south and east of Hill City, Golden West technicians are installing clamshells on houses where customers have signed up for new service.
  • North Central Service is working on Old Hill City Road working towards the new Golden West building on Chute Rooster Drive across Memorial Park.
  • A second crew will be plowing cable on Dead Broke Street, then will continue south on US Highway 385.
  • Rock saws are on Reno Gulch Road and Cowboy Gulch Road.
  • Bore crews are working on Old Hill City Road.
  • The crew plowing lines to customer homes will be working south of Hill City on Dead Broke Street, US Highway 385, and Reno Gulch Road.
  • Crews will be off for a few days over the Memorial Day weekend.
